Għasri

Għasri is a village in the western part of Gozo. By population, it is the smallest village in Gozo, however has a relatively large area. The village lies between the hills of Żebbuġ and Għammar. The name has Arabic origins and refers to the period of the day in between the afternoon and the evening. A lighthouse on Ġurdan hill, better known as the Giordan Lighthouse dominates Għasri. The famous lighthouse rises 180 metres above sea level and was inaugurated in 1853. Its beam can be seen up to 50 kilometres away.
L-Għasri huwa raħal fil-parti tal-punent ta’ Għawdex. Skont il-popolazzjoni, huwa l-iżgħar raħal f’Għawdex, pero' għandhu żona relattivament kbira. Ir-raħal jinsab bejn l-għoljiet taż-Żebbuġ u Ta' Għammar. L-isem għandu oriġini Għarbi u jirreferi għall- ħin tal-ġurnata bejn wara nofsinhar u filgħaxija. L-Għasri nsibu l-Fanal ta’ Ġurdan. Il-fanal famuż jitla’ 180 metru l- fuq mil-livell tal-baħar u ġie inawgurat fl-1853. It-travu tiegħu jidher sa 50 kilometru l-bogħod.
