The Gozo Album project is an initiative by the Cultural Heritage Directorate in collaboration with the Information Management Unit within the Ministry for Gozo and Planning. This project aims to celebrate the Island of Gozo's rich history, showcasing how it looked in the past while offering a unique perspective on how it has evolved over time.
The initiative will make a valuable photographic collection easily accessible to the public, preserving and sharing records that connect us to our heritage while fostering an appreciation of Gozo's transformation through the years.
Photos from Gozo's past showing pristine landscapes and a developing Gozo, disappeared buildings and new buildings, historic events and village feasts, personalities and nameless Gozitan faces, there is something interesting for everybody to discover.
This portal is not simply a collection of beautiful photographs of a disappearing Gozo, rather it is an educational tool whereby researchers may study buildings, monuments, customs, dress as well as traditions which have since disappeared. Information, where available will be given about the photographer, the date and the occasion of each photograph.
The rich photographic collection at the Gozo Section of the National Archives is being made accessible and available for both researchers as well as all those who are interested in Gozo's past. Unique photographs from the collection create a captivating mosaic of memories of past views, people and events.
Explore Gozo's history through our collection of old photographs. This archive showcases the island's landscapes, buildings, and daily life from past decades. These images offer a window into Gozo's heritage, providing a visual record of how the island has evolved over time.
