Crowd gathered at Nadur Square

A photo taken at Nadur Square, likely in the 1910s, offering a glimpse of the parish church during a moment of transformation. If you look closely, you’ll notice the church façade and dome still appear incomplete. The original church on this site was inaugurated in 1705 but soon became too small for the growing population. Construction of a larger church began in 1760 and continued through several phases of expansion. At the turn of the 20th century, Parish Priest Can. Giovanni Camilleri, along with his nephew Can. Martino Camilleri, launched an ambitious project to enlarge and embellish the church. Renowned architect Prof. Francesco Saverio Sciortino was commissioned to draw the plans, and by 1915 the aisles, new façade, and dome were completed, giving Nadur its now iconic parish church.
