This historic photograph shows the main entrance gate to the Citadel in Victoria, built in finely dressed limestone and set within massive defensive walls. This gate forms part of the fortified Citadel, which has been the heart of Gozo’s defence and administration since antiquity, with significant reconstruction carried out by the Order of St John in the 16th and 17th centuries.
